Selective cell adhesion by nanotopography for an artificial cornea

Biography

Elena Liang is a doctoral candidate in Biomedical Engineering. She works in Dr. Albert Yee's laboratory in Chemical Engineering and Materials Science. Elena seeks to control cell adhesion on polymer surfaces using different nanopatterns. She aims to translate her work towards designing a nanostructured artificial cornea to restore vision to patients that cannot receive corneal transplant.

Why is science communication important to you personally?

I want to attract future generations into STEM fields. One way to do so is using different media sources, like radio, to teach science and create an inclusive learning environment. I have also gained career opportunities from effectively communicating my work to different audiences.
